Slow or missed responses are a common frustration with law firm enquiries — we check in with every client to track whether their matched lawyer actually got in touch, and hold lawyers on the platform accountable for it.

Is Lawmateanz free for clients?

Yes, always. You never pay Lawmateanz anything. Any fees for legal work are agreed directly between you and your lawyer.

How does Lawmateanz find me a lawyer?

Describe your situation in your own words. We suggest the right area of law and match you with an independent lawyer who practises in it, starting with lawyers in your own region.

How does Lawmateanz check lawyers?

Before any lawyer is listed, we check their practising certificate against the official register: the New Zealand Law Society's register, or the relevant regulator in Australia.

What happens after I'm matched?

With your consent, your details go to the lawyer you're matched with, and you get theirs. You then deal with them directly. We also check in with you afterwards to see whether they got in touch.

What if there's no lawyer in my area?

We'll try to match you with the closest available lawyer and tell you that's what we've done. If no lawyer is available at all yet, we'll tell you straight away.

Can I choose a lawyer myself?

Yes. You can browse the directory and filter lawyers by area of law and location, and by whether they offer Legal Aid or fixed fees.

Can I just ask a legal question?

Yes. On Lawmateanz Answers you can ask anonymously, and lawyers answer publicly. Answers are general information, not advice about your situation.

How are my details handled?
