Founder of Lawmateanz, an online directory and matching platform connecting people in New Zealand and Australia with verified, independent lawyers.

Background

Reuben Rewha moved from Perth to Christchurch in late 2023. Before founding LawMate, he worked in security across hospitality, conferences and events, and high-end retail — work that taught him how well-run businesses operate, and how much trust, discretion and clear communication matter to people.

He chose to build in the legal world because of his mum, who has been his biggest inspiration to get into it.

Why he started LawMate

Reuben saw that finding a lawyer is often the hardest part of getting legal help: working out which kind of lawyer you need, whether they're qualified, roughly what they'll cost, and whether they'll get back to you. Lawmateanz is his answer to that.

Under Reuben, LawMate is built on a few simple principles: it's free for clients; every lawyer's practising certificate is checked against the official register before they're listed; clients are matched with lawyers in their own region first; and lawyers pay a flat fee, never a percentage of their fees.

Reuben runs Lawmateanz through LawMate Limited, a New Zealand company based in Christchurch. LawMate is starting in Christchurch and Perth, and growing city by city. More about LawMate →
