Can I get a refund if I change my mind about a purchase?

Common question · Consumer Law · Australia · 23 October 2026

General information from Lawmateanz

In Australia, businesses don't have to give a refund just because you've changed your mind. The consumer guarantees cover faulty products, not change of mind.

Many stores offer change-of-mind refunds or exchanges anyway. If they do, they must stick to their policy.

Unsolicited sales, such as door-to-door or phone sales, generally come with a 10 business day cooling-off period under the Australian Consumer Law.
